Unlike kennel-style training programs, your dog becomes part of our family during their stay, learning how to succeed in everyday life around people, children, dogs, cats, household routines, and real-world distractions.
Every program is customized to your dog's needs and includes hands-on coaching for you so that the training continues successfully when your dog returns home.

Rachel (Stella)
"I cannot say enough wonderful things about Amy! We have a sweet pit bull puppy but she needed a solid training foundation that we as her owners were not familiar with how to go about it as trying at home was not working. We wanted to nip her bad behaviors in the bud before she got older so after researching I landed on Ruff Start Dog Training. This was our first experience with a board and train so we went into it blind but after reaching out initially and talking with Amy and her coming to meet our puppy on a consultation, we were very impressed with her credentials and her eagerness to train not only Stella but us as her owners as well. The entire two weeks she was with Amy the communication was STELLAR. Amy sent multiple videos and messages every single day not only showing her amazing progress but explaining very well step by step what she was doing and why she was doing it so we understood what to do with her at home. Any questions I had were responded with professionalism and lots of information. Stella really took to her training and she amazed all of us at how well she learned commands, exceeded at crate training and potty training. Amy was with Stella every day all day constantly training and rewarding her for her learned good behaviors. We went back halfway thru and she coached us on doing everything she had taught her and we were amazed at how well she did. This was a very positive experience not only for our dog but for us as well! Amy is very invested in positive reward based training and she genuinely loves dogs and wants them to succeed. We are very happy with her board and train and recommend her highly!"

"We had an excellent experience with Amy. She has provided outstanding care and guidance for our American Bully. She’s very knowledgeable, patient, and confident, and tailored the training to meet our dog’s specific needs. We saw real improvement in impulse control and reliability with basic obedience skills. I felt supported throughout the process and appreciated the clear communication and professionalism. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for effective, compassionate training—especially for strong, driven dogs."

- How long does my dog need to stay?
The length of stay depends on your dog's age, training goals, and behavior challenges. During your consultation, Amy will recommend a program length that best fits your dog's needs.
- Where will my dog stay?
Your dog lives in Amy's home as part of the family. They are exposed to normal household life, including people, children, other dogs, and cats when appropriate for their training plan.
- Can I visit my dog During Training?
To help your dog adjust and focus on learning, visits are generally not recommended during the program's weekly training sessions. However, you'll receive regular updates, photos, and videos so you can follow your dog's progress.
- What should I bring with my dog during their stay?
A detailed packing list will be provided and reviewed during your consultation, but in general, you'll need to send:
- Enough food for your dog's entire stay
- Any medications or supplements your dog takes
- Bedding or a blanket that smells like home
- Favorite toys
- Appropriate chews and enrichment items
- A flat buckle collar
- A standard 6-foot leash

Sending familiar items can help your dog settle in more comfortably and ensures we can maintain consistency with their daily routine while they're here.
- What training methods do you use?
Amy uses reward-based, relationship-focused training that emphasizes clear communication, consistency, and practical skills for everyday life. No harmful corrections or pain will be used on your dog at any time.
- Are vaccines required to attend?
Yes- For the safety of Amy's family and pets, all dogs must be up to date on core vaccines. Puppies should have at least their first two rounds of DHPP (Distemper/parvo) and be current on Bordetella. Adult dogs must be current on DHPP and Rabies. Proof of vaccinations will be acquired at the consultation.
